Volunteers In Action
Employees of the Mitsubishi Electric US companies energetically volunteer in their communities, in support of the Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation's mission of serving young people with disabilities and of other worthy causes in their communities. Volunteer projects range from visiting children in hospitals to organizing family carnivals to tending gardens at schools for kids with special needs.
M.O.V.E. Award
Each year, one employee-initiated activity is selected as the Volunteer Project of the Year. The organizing committee receives a trophy - from MOVE, Mitsubishi Electric Organized Volunteer Efforts - and $1000 for the benefiting charity. The announcement of this year's award follows:

2009 M.O.V.E. Award Goes to HOPE Committee at MEPPI/Warrendale, PA

HOPE Committee receives the MOVE Trophy
and $1000 for The Early Learning Institute
The recipient of this year's MOVE award is the HOPE Committee, MEPPI/Warrendale, PA, for MEPPI + TELI New Energy for an Old Friend.
TELI is The Early Learning Institute, a multi-service center for children with disabilities that has been MEPPI's nonprofit partner for nearly 20 years. The HOPE Committee's challenge in the past year was to spark new energy in this long-term relationship, while continuing to raise funds and awareness for TELI and to engage MEPPI employees. To do this, Committee members decided to organize a series of smaller fundraising activities rather than one big event. The innovative and highly successful activities, which raised a total of $7000 and engaged 219 employees donating 747 hours of volunteer time -- were: Poker Walk, Hallway Golf Tournament, and HOPE in the Kitchen Cookbook Sale.
The impact of the project was mutually beneficial: TELI benefited from the funds raised and publicity, which helped their programs for disabled children; MEPPI benefited from a new surge of volunteer energy and increased awareness of the HOPE committee's work. MEPPI + TELI = Winning Combination!
The five other outstanding nominees for the 2009 MOVE Award were PEACH Committee, MDEA/Braselton, GA for their Adopt a School for Christmas Project; MASH Committee, MEAA/Maysville, KY, for their Easter Basket Project; ACTiVE Committee, MEUS/Cypress, CA for their HOPE Grows project, LOVE Committee, MEUS/Suwanee, GA for a C.O.R.R.A.L. Work Day, and VISION Committe, MEAU/Vernon Hills, IL, for Disability Mentoring Day.
Congratulations to all the committees, because when you volunteer, everyone wins!
Mitsubishi Electric Hallway Golf
Raises nearly $51,000 to support Special Olympics and other charities
In fall 2008, the Mitsubishi Electric companies in the U.S. hosted their first-ever, company-wide volunteer fundraising project — the Mitsubishi Electric Hallway Golf Tournament. Nine locations participated in the event, with more than 1,000 employees building and playing miniature golf-style holes in the hallways, warehouses and factory floors. Vendors at some locations contributed up to $1,000 to sponsor holes and additional funds were raised by paying to play and oppportunity drawings. The event raised nearly $51,000, which was shared between Special Olympics Golf nationally and local charities selected by the philanthropy committee at each location.
